About Breast Center

As of 2015, there were 22,468 female breast cancer patients, which represents 88.1 out of every 100,000 female population. Over the past 20 years, breast cancer in women in Korea has increased steadily, and has increased about three times compared to 2001.
Most experts agree that breast cancer will continue to increase in the future due to the influence of westernized living patterns and a decline in marriage and pregnancy.

However, due to the early detection of breast cancer through regular checkups and the continuous development and use of medications that have positive outcomes on breast cancer treatment, the survival rate of female breast cancer in Korea is very high compared to other types of cancer, and is one of the highest ranked among OECD countries. Furthermore, breast cancer is not only about diagnosis and treatment, but should also consider the quality of life in the long run. Depression, cognitive impairment, menopausal symptoms, bone loss or osteoporosis, hair loss, lymphedema, and infertility are factors that can undermine the patient's quality of life.

Our Breast Center at CHA Ilsan Medical Center intends to approach patients with the concept of multidisciplinary and integrated treatment, where patients are not only diagnosed and treated for breast cancer, but are also cared for various side effects and complications that may occur after treatment.
Professors from the Department of Radiology, Radiation Oncology, Nuclear Medicine, Psychiatry, Rehabilitation, and Internal Medicine along with General Surgery (Breast Center) participate in the treatment of breast cancer with the concept of integrated treatment.
Particularly for breast cancer patients of childbearing age, the impact of cancer treatment on fertility is explained in great depths at the Fertility Center. Once the cancer treatment is complete, we aim to provide multiple options to women who want to become pregnant though various methods. This can be best achieved at CHA Ilsan Medical Center, which leads the world in fertility.
