How to Request Medical Records

What are medical records?

It is a document that records the patient’s personal information and disease (current medical history, history of past disease, history of surgical treatment, etc.) and every treatment the hospital has conducted.

Therefore, medical records are highly sensitive information that should not be known to others. In this regard, the current medical law stipulates the protection of personal information of medical personnel, and in principle prohibits the viewing and issuance of copies of medical records to others other than patients.

However, as an exception, a copy of medical records can be issued to the patient's spouse, lineal ascendant, descendant, and his or her designated representative only if they provide the required documents specified in the medical law and obtaining prior consent from the patient.

In addition, as the patient’s medical information is sensitive, any personal information cannot be given over the phone.
