Once the ovulation date is confirmed by an ultrasound, the husband provides sperm sample through masturbation and is then processed in the laboratory. The highest quality sperm is selected and injected into the uterus through a catheter where they are left to fertilize the eggs naturally.
This process is a painless, non-invasive procedure. Once the sperm is injected, after 10-15 minutes of rest, you may go home. For those who has induced their ovulation, hCG injection may be given to increase the chance of becoming pregnant.

Husband should avoid alcohol and hot sauna. On the day of IUI procedure, although the husband should refrain from strenuous exercise and/or work, it will be possible to return to daily activities. There are no restrictions for baths or sexual intercourse after the procedure.

Depending on the women’s age and reason for fertility; fertility on average, women have a 10-15% chance of getting pregnant with one IUI cycle. The more IUI cycles you undergo, the higher the chance is for pregnancy. For stimulated IUI cycles, the success rate can increase to 20%.

Compared to natural pregnancy, the chances of miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, fetal anomalies does not increase when undergoing IUI. However, hormone injections are used to induce hyperovulation for stimulated IUI, chances of multiple pregnancies can increase to about 20% as well as having a higher chance of experiencing ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome.
